Common Name: Floating Crystalwort
Renowned Japanese aquascaper Takashi Amano has inspired many aquarium owners to keep the 1-5 cm tall cosmopolitic liverwort, Riccia fluitans, submerged. As a traditional floating plant it offers good protection for young fish.
Riccia fluitans
This plant is grown in-vitro and is kept in a nutrient medium. Gently remove from cup and rinse in a container of aquarium water. Seperate into portions and attach to rock or wood with cotton thread or fishing line. You can also let it float towards the surface.
New shoots always grow towards the surface, so it may be necessary to prune it with aquascaping scissors. Riccia fluitans thrives best with added CO2 and medium light. In good growing conditions small oxygen bubbles form on the leaf tips.
DO NOT RELEASE PLANTS AND LIVESTOCK INTO LOCAL WATERWAYS!
